Make Business Central time sheets smarter: Highlight the current week

Customer story: The need to quickly spot the current week

“I wish the entry for the current week was clearly highlighted in the Time Sheets list.”

Finding the right week in the time sheets list sounds trivial—but when dozens of users do it many times a day, it becomes a daily irritation and a real time sink. Our customer wanted an immediate visual cue so everyone could land on the correct week at a glance.

How we solved it: A tailored Business Central extension

We built a lightweight Business Central extension that:

  • Detects the current work week based on the user’s locale and company settings.
  • Highlights that row in the Time Sheets list view for instant recognition (subtle, accessible styling that also works in high‑contrast mode).
  • Keeps the page otherwise standard-compliant and upgrade‑friendly (no changes to core objects, clean event subscriptions, and Microsoft analyzer‑clean code).

The result: users stop hunting for dates and start logging time faster. It’s a tiny tweak that saves seconds per action—and hours over a month.

Time sheets in standard Business Central

In standard Business Central, the time sheets list shows weekly entries ordered by date. Out of the box, it doesn’t visually mark the current week, so users typically scroll or filter to find it. That’s perfectly fine for occasional use—but in environments with frequent time logging, a small UI cue can make a big difference. Read more about Business Central time sheets on Microsoft Learn
