We extended the system by adding customizable order status and order type fields:

• Users can freely add and maintain their own values.
• Status and type can be equipped with color codes for better visibility.
• Values can be used for filtering and sorting on both lists and cards.
• Data flows seamlessly from all sales documents to posted documents.

Companies can now track, classify, and manage orders according to their own processes.

“Our sales team often dismisses warnings about exceeded credit limits. We need a stricter safeguard that blocks sales order release when the customer credit limit has been exceeded.”

We implemented an extension that strengthens Business Central's default credit limit functionality:

• Blocks sales order release when the customer credit limit has been exceeded.
• Adds a new setup option on the Sales & Receivables Setup page to enable the feature.
• Preserves all other standard logic unchanged — update-friendly and analyzer-clean.

Result: salespeople can no longer dismiss warnings, and finance can trust that credit limits are always respected.

“When we create a sales order from a sales quote, the due date does not update. This causes issues because the customer may accept the quote only weeks later.”

We implemented an extension that automatically updates the posting date and recalculates the due date whenever a sales quote is converted to a sales order.

The feature can be activated or deactivated as needed in Sales & Receivables Setup. Additionally, the extension can be configured to:

• use the user's work date instead of the current date
• skip cases where the original date is blank or in the future

“Sales orders have a work description field — why can't purchase orders have the same?”

We implemented the sales document functionality for purchase documents as well, including:

• A work description field for purchase orders, purchase quotes, and blanket purchase orders.
• Automatic field transfer to posted purchase invoices and posted purchase receipts.
• Seamless integration with standard pages and standard reports.
• Implementation following Microsoft coding guidelines.

Buyers can now save essential notes directly on purchase orders — information flows consistently to both finance and operational users.

“Our warehouse staff does not always notice items that are close to expiring. Could Business Central show a clear reminder?”

We created a cue on the Role Center that shows expiring lots:

• Opens item ledger entries pre-filtered to lots with approaching expiration dates.
• Supports configurable time periods: lots expiring within a week, month, or custom period.
• Provides immediate visibility so warehouse and procurement can act in time.
• Built using event subscriptions and following Microsoft development guidelines.

Result: no more surprises. Staff can see expiring lots in time and act before problems arise.

We implemented additional settings in Sales & Receivables Setup and Purchases & Payables Setup where the desired default posting action can be selected.

We also added the ability to set a user-specific default value in User Setup — while still allowing the selection to be changed before posting if needed.

In standard BC, the default for sales documents is Ship and Invoice and for purchase documents Receive and Invoice. In the customer's processes, just Ship or Receive was a significantly better starting point — this small change improved daily efficiency considerably.
